Jillian
was born with a talent for drawing, and, even though excelling
at High School Art (lettering & History of Art), she is
self-taught, as she was not able to study further. This doesn't stop
her from teaching occasionally, which she enjoys immensely.
Employed
through life in various fields other than art, she calls
herself 'A Jill of All Trades', and this follows through to her art. A
recent solo art exhibition having been entitled 'A Jill of All Shades'.
Just new to book cover and illustration work (since 2001), she is probably best
known for her house portraiture in pen and ink, having done over 9,000!
Second to that would be her rubber stamp designs which 'only' number in
the hundreds.
Her website features fine art in various
mediums, and even includes
some very tiny miniatures, which are collected world-wide.
Three of her fine art works have won art awards, and she has been
juried into numerous local exhibitions.
During
her life she picked up some odd areas to apply her art - set
design, jewelry design, instant lottery ticket
design, theatre advertising (movies), advertising art, painting
popcorn cans, stage set design, murals, paintings signs, posters,
greeting cards, photography, screen printing, reverse glass painting,
calligraphy, billboards, stationery, etc.
She started painting 'seriously' with a few
works in 1998 when a friend wanted to see some of her artwork - she had
none to show - so set about 'proving' herself as an 'artist' - this
progressed
to having her own gallery/studio for 2 years, opening in 2000.
Currently
she is able to devote more of her time to art, and hopes to produce as
much as time will allow. She is expanding her art into the field of Art Trading
Cards, for which she feels has a great future, due to their
collectability.
Jillian is from
South Australia, but currently located in White City, Oregon,
USA after spending over 4 years in Atlanta, Georgia. She has lived in Australia, England, Europe and USA, and her work
is
collected world-wide.
Jillian was Art Director of the Atlanta Artists
Center Traveling show 2004, 2005 and outside exhibitions, and on their board of
Directors. |
